In 1969, 15 year-old Raymond Washington organized a gang called the Baby Avenues, which later became the Avenue Crips. They wore blue bandanas around their necks or heads and soon chose blue as their representative color.

Raymond Washington and his group influenced other gangs, creating several Crip sets, including Eastside and Westside Crips. The Crips became violent and constantly expanded their territory. Crips also became greatly involved in the drug trade. They started an expansion to sell Crack back in the 80's and 90's.

Crips developed many networks and gained respect with gangs from all around the world. In the 80's Crips formed in Belize and migrated to the US. They had formed the Harlem Mafia Crips, then helped form many other Crip gangs.
