In Compton many gangs were being formed and retaliation was needed to counter the gang violence. As a form of this retaliation a gang unit was formed. Most everyone that worked Compton Police Department for a few years was an expert in gangs. They dealt with them on a daily basis. There were many excellent officers assigned to work gangs over the years, and we learned a lot from the ones that came before us. Houirie Taylor and Reggie Wright both were from the South Central and Compton area where both Bloods and Crips were formed. They helped other personnel from policeforces get to know
the area, know the gangs and their activities in the area, and know how to deal with the gang's violence. With this many gang activities were being controlled.

For safety reasons training methods are used to train police forces to deal with violence in the community such as gang violence. Some methods used are:
1. Having advanced knowledge of gang activity
2. Sharing of knowledge with other law enforcement agencies
3. Staff safety

1. Undercover work to get information about gangs or gang members
In life as we know it many gangs are being formed in our community. Whether it's in school or at the home or even in the streets gangs still exist. We need some kind of retaliation and the Gang Unit is our only form of that retaliation at this point and time. They are used when we need them and can be there when we don't. They keep the community safe. Without their knowledge of gang violence and criminal activities we would have a world of fighting.
