Genes

Genes play a large role in obesity. If the parents of a child were overweight or obese, the child is mostly likely to be overweight or obese at a young age which usually carries into adulthood. Researchers in Britain and France have made a break through; they have found yet…another gene that supposedly linked to obesity. In their study they looked at 62 families prone to obesity. Although it won’t completely cure obesity it will help future generations prevent it. They found the gene ENPP1 was found in all the families. The researches then did another study this time on 4000 people, obese or not. The results, researchers found 11 different types of ENPP1, 6 of them linked with severe obesity.

How these genes work is they control how the cells respond to the insulin, which in turn helps the cells use insulin correctly. In Diabetics what happens is the cells don’t use the insulin correctly, causing a build up in the sugar in the blood. Researches have also found that ENPP1 interferes with not only the usage of insulin but also appetite. Although they believe that this find won’t cure obesity or diabetes, it will help research and develop ways to later cure these diseases.

DNAThis is a DNA strand, carrying all those "obese genes."
