Chinese immigrants

In 1860, the Chinese immigrants came from Goung Dong province in southeast China seeking labor job opportunities at the International district. Goung Dong province didn’t have a lot of land for people to live in or to grow their crops like Seattle. Most of the Chinese Immigrants that came to the International District were male and they usually come alone because they worked for cheap labor and converted the money to send to their families. The Chinese men who came here only planned on staying temporarily until they made enough to support their family in China. Then they planned to go back to China to live their lives. The Chinese labors worked under rough conditions especially in jobs like mines, railroads, agriculture, and in canneries. After more and more Chinese immigrants came to the International District, these were less cheap labor jobs. In 1880, the Chinese exclusion act was passed and people hated the Chinese immigrants because they were taking over all of the jobs. These people went over the top to chase the Chinese out of Chinatown. In reality, the Chinese took many of the jobs that people didn’t like to do.
