How old were you when you entered service?
Grandpa: How old I am to join the army? 16 years old. 16 to 17 years old.
What was your work in World War II battles?
Grandpa: My work in the... my work in the battle? I was with the tank, that’s the light tank and I was a gunner.
Who were your main enemies?
Grandpa: The enemy? The Japanese army. That’s the Japanese army, the Japanese army tortured me that Japanese guard.
What was the Bataan Death March?
Grandpa: The Bataan death march was so cruel, the Japanese army was so cruel at that time and we surrender on April 1942. How they treated us during that death march they are so cruel by the time a person get weak or pass out so they have to lay it flat in the ground they just stab it with their bayonets and kick the guy in the roadside and half of the group, just half were left because we walk under the heat of the sun it was so hot and they are many guys that were passed out.
How did you escape?
Grandpa: How did I escape? When we were about to reach the a Camp O’Donnell the concentration camp the grasses were so tall in the Philippines so when at night we are about to sleep and then me escape with my friend and just run straight no stop then finally I’m lucky I was not been shoot they fired us with machine gun, thirty caliber.
