About This Project
Purpose
This site is an academic research project designed, developed and constructed with the purpose of entering the TRIO ThinkQuest Competition by students in the University of Tennessee Upward Bound program.
Technologies Used
This site was constructed in HTML using CSS. CSS is an abbreviation for "Cascading Style Sheets." CSS is an advanced web technique used to develop and display the design of a webpage separately from the content. With CSS, we were able to create the style of our site separately; in this way, the appearance of the tile, headers, side bars, and links can be modified independently from the HTML. HTML stands for Hypertext Markup Language. HTML is a programming language in which web pages are written, it contains the content and uses tags to "markup" the content to specify how the content can be formatted.
Development Applications
When we developed the website, we used Macromedia Studio for every aspect of web design and application development, including: Dreamweaver, Flash, and Macromedia Fireworks; each of them has a different job, but the main function of them together is to use the information you have and put them in the form you wish them to be, encode them to run on the web, and insert them on your web pages.
Development Process
The process of how we built this website:
- Construct a blueprint or outline of the steps to follow.
- Search for the content using a variety of sources.
- Make a detailed citation list.
- Develop the CSS and HTML.
- Design the graphics and animations.
- Publish the website on the internet.
- Validate the pages in the site using the WC3 Validation Service.
