Thailand is the only country in Southeast Asia that was never taken over by European colonists. It was established in the mid-14th century as a country called Siam (Thailand's Background). Not until 1939 did they changed the name to "Thailand" (Thailand).
Thailand has a unique blend of cultural diversity, ranging from Chinese to Malays. People have dwelled in the Thai area for as long as anyone can remember - maybe even before Asian civilization have been firmly determined and set up (The Origins of Thais). It now has a population of 62 million people. 95% of the people are Buddhist, while the rest are Muslim or a part of other religous affiliation (Thailand).
