When the Spaniards occupied Philippines, a vast majority of Filipinos were introduced to Christianity. At least 83% of the population in the Philippines is Roman Catholic.
In 1521, Ferdinand Magellan discovered the Philippines; however after encountering Lapu Lapu who was a tribal leader, Magellan was killed. Spain had total domination over Philippines, until the US came and interfered. The US Filipino war started and then the Spanish-American War followed.
