The name "Volunteer of America" (VOA) was chosen over 100 years ago to signify that the organization was comprised of people voluntarily choosing to help others. Volunteers are an important part of our work--whether they are providing leadership by serving on our board of directiors, engaged in working directly with our clients, all are helping to make posititve changes in people's lives.

Q: What are the programs does VOA have?

A: There are a lot of programs that you can choose to work on:

+ CHILDREN & FAMILIY SERVICES: Promoting healthy development of children and their families.

+ REHABILITATION SERVICES: Offering support, treatment and prevention for adults and adolescents.

+ SENIOR SERVICES: Adult Day Centers: Supporting independence and quality of life for seniors.

+ THRIFT STORE: Donated household items and clothing.

+ FOOD SERVICES: Family Style Nutritious Meals, teaching occupational skills to women in recovery programs, supporting the financial needs of our programs.

+ VEHICLE DONATIONS: Vehilces, autos, boats, etc, donated and actioned to the highest bidder. Proceeds supporting the financial needs of our programs.

+ SMURFIT RECYCLING: Recycable office materials are picked up from local corporations to raise funds for agency programs.

Q: How old do I have to be?

A: It depends on the project you want to be inovolved in. You should check out the required age for the one that you are interested in before you sign up for it!

Q: Who do I need to contact to sign up?

A: There are different contacts for different projects. As you go over your chosen project , you will have information about the person in charged for that particular activity. However, if you have questions about volunteering, you can call (503) 235-8655 or send e-mail to dmahoney@voaor.org.

Q: Where is the location of this organization?

A: The main location is : 3910 SE Stark St. Portland OR 97214. Yet, there won't be the same location for all projects. Because there are a lot of activities for one subject (i.e.Children and Familiy Services) so it is really hard to determine untill you decide what project you want to help with.
