The Community Cycling Center (CCC) builds skills and fosters the personal growth of youth community-oriented recreational and educational bicycle programs and services. The Community Cycling Center provides after school riding and maintenance/safety programs; summer programs for youth; a full-service professional used bike shop; classes in safety, bike repair, commuting and riding; and a program to provide fully-outfitted commuter bikes to meet the trasnportation needs of low-income adults. Sustainability, self-sufficiency, recycling/reusing, and safety are tradmarks of all our programs and are central to our mission.

Q: What are the volunteer opportunities does CCC have?

A: At CCC, you can join in all of the following activities:

+BIKE REFUBISHMENT : All volunteers will start with bike cleaning and dismantling bikes for recycling in order to get oriented in our facility. If you are new to bike repair, we'll teach you everything you need to know. After you have been certified by our program, you may help work on bikes in the shop. Available time: Tuesdays and Wednesdays 7-9 p.m. (Drop-in-nights, no scheduling needed). + PROGRAMS - BEHIND THE SCENES: Volunteers will help with the administration of our programs and behind the scenes work. This work includes calling program participants for follow-up, faxing information, sorting and filling sales records, and other office tasks. + CREATE - A - COMMUTER TRAINING AIDE: Recipients of free bikes in our program go through a thorough training class on how to ride safety and do basic repair. Volunteers are needed to help assist the staff trainer at these classes every week.(Help teach how to change a flat and assist with an on-street short ride). + YOUTH VOLUNTEERS: Youth volunteers have been an integral part of the CCC since our inception. From bicycle recycling to sorting parts, Youth volunteers can learn a lot while volunteering here. Available time: Weekdays 4:30 - 7 p.m. (contact Ayleen to schedule 503-564-8864 or ayleen@CommunityCyclingCenter.org.)

+ BIKE TRANSFERERS: Weekly, we have a huge pile of bikes to transfer. Volunteers with vehicles for hauling are an important part of moving completed bikes from the CCC to our storage facility down the street. It will take about 2-3 hours and most people assist with trasfers once a month. Available time: Thursdays 2:00-7 p.m. (contact Ayleen to schedule 503-564-8864 or ayleen@CommunityCyclingCenter.org.)

+ SPECIAL EVENTS: When we have special events, you will hear from us! Volunteers are needed for all aspects of special events, from distributing posters to being at the events. Volunteers are the reason our events go well!

+ SPECIAL ROLES / INTERNSHIPS / SKILLS: We have special roless and internships posted on our website at www.CommunityCyclingCenter.org. If you have a special skill to contribute, please get in touch with Ayleen to talk about how you can contribute to the CCC.

 

Q: What is the best thing at CCC?

A: Many times, young people have the opportunity to earn bike helmets, locks, and even whole bicycles while participating in our activities.

Q: How old can I be to volunteer at CCC?

A: 14 and olders are welcome to volunteer at CCC. However, if you are 14, you need to have your parents/guardians to be with you for the night-orientation and you must have the permission form signed before you start any projects.

Q: What are some requirements at CCC?

A: For your safety, you need to wear closed-toe shoes whenever you do the mechanic work. Also, remember to HAVE FUN when you volunteer with us! Note: Join us for Volunteer Party on the LAST Thursday of every month for refreshments! This is not a requirement, however, all volunteers are welcome.
