pH- The maximum range is between 6.5 and 8.5.  In all of our results were in this range.

TDS- For this standard, the maximum is 500 ppm.  This is based on taste and not health considerations.  Most of our examples were above this level.

Hardness- The maximum for drinking water is 180 ppm.  Hard water can cause incrustations in pipes and other equipment.  All of the river water is classified as very hard.

    • 0 to 60 mg/L as calcium carbonate is classified as soft
    • 61 to 120 mg/L is moderately hard
    • 121 to 180 mg/L is hard
    • Greater than 180 mg/L is very hard

Nitrate- The maximum 10 mg/L.  High levels of Nitrate can increase infant mortality.
