As far as alcoholism, many programs have been very effective. The Twelve Step program includes many aspects to not only relieve ones need to use chemicals but to re-introduce one to accept “life on life’s terms.” The mind is a very powerful tool used to perceive everything and if we master perceiving in a positive way than we can eliminate those actions and thoughts that makes life worse.

Specifically, the Twelve Step Program of Alcoholic Anonymous offers a simple step by step program in which a “spiritual awakening” is often thought of as a groundbreaking productive step in place of the disease of alcoholism or drug abuse. And so many recovering alcoholics have used their "spiritual awakening to grow and recover. In retrospect, every alcoholic with their disease in remission has decided to “change.” By 'changing' we mean to focus on altering or redirecting ones beliefs, actions, attitudes, and perspective for the benefit of a new way of life.
