How did it jump from monkeys and chimps to humans? There are numerous of theories that have been going around as to how this might have happened. One theory was that when African hunters were hunting and butchering monkeys and chimps for meat, the exposure to the blood might have infected them. This theory has good ideas, however, African hunters for millions of years have been infected with SIV and exposed to blood though bites, cuts, and hunting without any appearance of HIV.
Another theory was that when the polio vaccine was developed in the late
1950’s, it could have been infected with SIV viruses that is turn
cold have contaminated the polio vaccine. Since the SIVs and HIVs viruses
were not known in the 1950’s no tests were done. The retesting of
the original stocks of virus show no evidence of HIV so tat means that
monkey cells cannot supply the growth of HIV-1.
How did the SIV virus which is usually harmless and short-lived in humans,
transformed into AIDS? Some believed it was the use of unsterilized syringes
or needles that were used during the UN-sponsored campaign to combat Yaws
and other diseases that causes AIDS. When the SIV0infected person was
injected with penicillin, the needle would be passed on, it would slightly
mutate itself and adapt to each new environment, and after six mutations
it was transformed into AIDS (AIDS Weekly, p15).
