Does
your school talk about the issue of HIV/AIDS?
Our graph shows that 94% of the people have heard about HIV/AIDS in
their schools. 14% say they have not heard about AIDS in school. You
can conclude that the topic of AIDS is very open in U.S schools and
that majority of the people surveyed feel comfortable about it. This
is unlike Africa where people don’t talk about AIDS because
they are ashamed of it. |

Which
continent is most affected by AIDS?
For this question, we listed four continents for people to choose.
This included Asia, Africa, South America, and North America. 4% of
the people said Asia, and 96% said Africa. This tells us that many
people know that Africa is in crisis. |

What
ways do you think we can help prevent the spread of AIDS? (List two
ways)
58% said safe sex, like using condoms, will be the way to stop the
spread of AIDS. 56% said abstinence will be a good preventative way.
46% said education. 12% suggested stopping using dirty needles. 12%
suggested that the best way is creating a vaccine for it. 8% said
funds will help prevent the spread of AIDS.
The results from this question indicate that these teenagers look
to safe sex or abstinences as the best way to prevent AIDS. You would
infer from this that these teens believe that sex is the major cause
for the virus. |
Conclusion
Remarks: The survey we collected is limited because there were not as
many people as we wished we could have received data from. It would have
been better if we had more of a variety of people and got analysis from
different places. Right now, we only collected surveys from our Upward
Bound students. There could also have been many other ways to improve
our data, for example, having better questions to ask.
