Everyday, I’m doing research about AIDS in Africa. But I’m asking myself, what’s really the point for our website? I got all the general and broad information about AIDS, but what really affects me are the innocent children dieing each day. I read something today and it touched me to hear that in the world, 2000 infants are born with HIV from their mother, and 95% of all those infants are in Africa. It’s unbelievable, but this is the truth of what’s going on. It seems like there is no help and that is what makes it so disappointing. Seeing their smiles or their pain tells us a lot of what they are feeling, and it definitely tells a story of their life they are going through. Every picture I saw in different websites of the children makes me feel sad and it’s disturbing.

I read the news from the Sunday Seattle P.I newspaper. In the section of Focus, I saw an article about President Bush sending $15 billion to fund HIV/AIDS in Africa. I was saying to myself, “Whoa!” It was incredible because the heading I saw was a nice big cartoon check with the recipient to the people of Africa who have AIDS, and it was from President George Bush. It’s pretty amazing, and I really hope that those funds will help every single child in Africa and their family. All they need is to live a normal life, and I know that my wish will be their wish too.

I read an article in the Tuesday Seattle P.I. “Fifty-five percent of the money is to go to treatment, 20 percent to HIV prevention and 25 percent to the care of dying patients and AIDS orphans (Seattle P.I).” This phrase made me holler a happy yelp! Considering that U.S is still in a healing stage after the Iraq war, it’s surprising to hear that we will be sending big bucks to Africa to save the people. I think it’s amazing, and hope that the money will become productive. Like when the SARS epidemic happened in China, it was so sudden, and everyday I would hear more and more people being infected. But now, I hear the SARS is slowly being controlled. I hope that the AIDS in Africa will soon be controlled too, so the world can hear some more happy news.

There is news that surprised me in the Sunday’s newspaper again. This time, it’s not news about Bush with his AIDS project in Africa, but actually about a local man in the Seattle area helping out the African community gain more knowledge about HIV/AIDS. He works in his barber shop, and every time there is a teenager getting a hair cut, they will be sitting in the chair getting lessons and education about AIDS from the barber man. After doing so much research about this topic, I realized how I paid a lot more attention to AIDS situation around my neighborhood. Like I was riding the bus, and I saw an ad that read “One million of HIV cured, only 41 million to go.” I ride the bus all the time, but even if the sign existed long ago, I never paid attention to it. But now, it seems like there are signs everywhere and it shocks me how everybody should be aware of it in the community, but are not.
