Effects
on the Economy
The rapid spread of AIDS will badly affect the economy of Africa. Compared
to the rest of the world, South Africa has the most infected HIV positive
people. To be exact, out of the 42 million in South Africa, 10% (4,200,000)
of those people are infected with the disease (AIDS Weekly, pNA).
T
he occurrence of AIDS will result in countless deaths in Africa. This
will result in the lack of products and resources due to the decline of
people who can work within industries.
There has also been a report that life expectancy will decline for 33
years in the countries of Botswana, Zimbabwe, and Malawi. In addition,
orphanages will increase, adding financial burden to society. However,
the most devestating effect toward the economy is that insurance for medical
and healthcare issues will increase dramatically. AIDS is destroying the
economy.
With little treatment or productive medicine in place, it is estimated
that adults infected with AIDS in Africa can all die 6-8 years from now.
This will definitely effect the labor and industry in Africa because less
and less people will be working to help develop the country (Nevin, pgn230p16(4).
