Kristallnacht

The night when the hope and dreams of most Jews were taken away was that of November 9, 1938. Kristallnacht or, “Night of Broken Glass,” left most Jewish people without homes, shops, and Synagogues. Windows were broken, homes were destroyed and Synagogues were burned down by storm troops and Gestapo (German Police) dressed like civilians. Not only were building windows shattered, but the spirits of many Jews were also destroyed.

On that infamous night, over 1,300 Synagogues and 171 homes were burned, 76 Synagogues were destroyed, 7,500 shops had been looted, 91 Jews were killed and 36 seriously injured. The remaining people were moved from their homes to concentration camps where they would most likely face death at a point in time of them being there.
