One day my sister and I caught the city bus to Waikiki.  We were looking forward to boogie boarding at “Walls” We got there and was very disappointed because there was no waves to shred.  So we walked down Kalakaua and noticed some people surfing in front of Duke Statue.  I asked my sister if she had any money, because we needed to rent a surfboard.  We were in luck, because she had 8 dollars in which we could ride for two hours.
I went first since I’m the oldest and learned pretty quickly.  My sister had a harder time, but after a while she got it.  From then on we became regulars at Waikiki.  We made good friends with the Waikiki beachboys that we got good deals renting the surfboards.
Today, one of the beachboys still recognizes me.  I’m glad my sister had some money that day for us to learn to surf.  The experience brought us together.  We were able to get away from school and home and rip up the waves.
