Robert Kelly
Slater was born on February 11, 1972 in Cocoa Beach, Florida. Slater first won a
World Title when he was 20 years old (making him the youngest world champion
ever) in 1992. Slater then consecutively won 5 more each year from 1994-1998.
Slater's six world titles was a record, enforcing his reputation of "the worlds
best surfer".
Kelly's success has made him a very rich man, he's gotten/won nearly a million
dollars in prize money from the surfing tour and has made much more from
sponsors, movies and his video game that was released September of 2002 'Kelly
Slater pro surfer'.
In 1999, Kelly Slater made the decision to 'retire' from competitive surfing
so he could do other things for himself. Then, in 2002, he decided that he
wanted to return for a shot at his seventh world title and managed to stay in
the top 20 on tour for most of the season. Even if Slater didn't win, his
reputation of 'the greatest surfer of his generation' lives on.
