The dominant drug in marijuana is THC, which stands for tetrahydrocannabinol. This is the mind-altering drug that gives the person a sense of being “high”. THC increases heart rate, blood pressure, and causes physical and mental problems up to 24 hours after smoking. It makes it hard to focus for the user, and makes minutes seem like hours. THC impairs the immune system's ability to fight off diseases and cancer. The THC content of marijuana, which averaged less than 1% in 1974, rose to an average 4% by 1994 and is much more today.Scientists still are not completely sure of the effects of the long term effects of THC on a user's body, so be safe and stay away from marijuana!
