African Americans suffer from excessive stress in their minds and during socialization in the environment.  Stress has been proven to be a risk factor associated with high blood pressure which leads to cardiovascular disease.  African Americans have the highest incidence of cardiovascular disease.  A recent study sponsored by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, was performed to “examine the role of Meditation in stress reduction and prevention of hypertension in African Americans".  The study showed that meditation reduced the amount of stress, which lowered blood pressure.

Meditation has been shown to change the experience of symptoms, and to promote healing by reducing the stress response in the mind and body.  It has been effective for conditions such as:

               Chronic pain

               Anxiety and panic

               Sleep disturbance

               Gastrointestinal distress

               Fatigue

               Headaches
