Today, 90 million Americans, more than one-third of the adult population is overweight or obese.

~Risk of an early death is twice as high for the obese than for the non-obese.

~The risk of dying from diabetes or heart attack is five to seven times greater for the obese than the non-obese. 

~29% of African Americans were obese in the year 2000

~Up to age 28, African American men and White men develop obesity at about the same rate, but after that, African American men become 2.2 times more obese than White men.
