Gary: A Vietnam Veteran:
After
the Vietnam War, many Vietnam War veterans had to deal with
the after effects. According to an interview from an article
title, "Beyond Vietnam," a twenty year old soldier
named Gary talked about his experience on both sides of the
War. He explained the after effects of the village in Vietnam
neither standing on the side of the VC or the ARVIN's, whom
were the good guys. Gary claimed that all the old Vietnamese
knew how to do was capture territory and kill. War and fighting
was what they were all about. He said "They (regarding
the Vietnamese) did it with bullets and knifes, we (American)
today do it with taxes, political connections and "I can
get away with it because I'm powerful attitudes (http://www.pbs.org/cgi-bin/pov/response.cgi/discuss/17/)."
Gary brought up a very good question. Which is worse, physical
death or moral death? It is obvious that Gary has suffered from
the after effects of the Vietnam War. He says, "I did hang
in there and serve my time, Now I pay with soul and mind."
Gary is just one of the many people still effected by the Vietnam
War.
