Tossing Ball

During New Year celebration, people of all ages throw tennis balls at each other as a way to have fun, make new friends, and maybe even ensue a romantic relationship.

The ball tossing game was originally part of the courtship ritual. Today it is used as a way for older males and females to get to know each other. During the ritual, while a soft black ball or tennis ball is thrown back and forth, the couple can talk to each other. According to the traditional rules, if a player drops the ball, that player needs to sing a traditional Hmong song or give a gift to his/her partner.
