Beauty Contest

The beauty contest is held every Hmong New Year as part of the acitivities. This contest offers young ladies a chance to show off their talent and skills to the whole community. Depending on the community you live in, beauty has a varied degree of importance.

The prices for the contest are as follows: 1st place winner receives $2,000, 2nd place receives $1,000 and 3rd place receives $500. The rules for the contest are that you cannot be married and if you win first place you will be "Miss Hmong" for one whole year until the next "Miss Hmong" is chosen. The contest usually runs for three days and is held during the new year celebration.
