Cocoa companies

These
are the countries that mainly provide cocoa beans: Ivory
Coast, Ghana, Indonesia, Nigeria, Brazil, Cameroon. .
About 43% of the cocoa beans from the Ivory Coast come from the
labor of children.

These
children are often sold to the cocoa bean farms in hope of a better
life. There are employment opportunities, but they are not paid
enough and are often starved. They
are beaten if they drop cocoa beans. Even though the children plant,
pick and prepare the cocoa beans, they have never had the opportunity
to taste it. Hersey's M&M's and Mars controls two thirds of
the chocolate candy market in the United States, making it a $13
billion industry. Many companies say that they are unable to help
the children within the child labor plantations. This is hard to
believe since most large cocoa companies make so much money.
