Many groups and associations took part in the struggle of Freedom Summer. This part of the site will explain the role each group played in the overall project.

All groups involved in the project knew that they would be much more powerful if they were one, united organization. This led to the making of the group known as the Council of Federated Organizations (COFO). The individual groups that were included in COFO kept their own goals and virtues, but it was much easier for Freedom Summer to go through as one.
