There were two main focuses of Freedom
Summer: education and the right to vote.
When the workers of Freedom Summer went
down to Mississippi, they set a lot of goals; most of which were met.
They did a variety of things when they were there. They set up schools
for African American children, in order to improve the educational
system that was in place at that time. Also, they went door to door
in the Black communities in an attempt to get them registered to vote.
