Miscellaneous - Self Replication
Are nanorobot dangerous?
Some people believe that nanorobot would not turn on their creator because nanorobot would need fuel or software to stay alive. Maybe we spent too much time watching science fiction stories about artificial intelligence on the Sci-Fi Channel.

Should we make nanorobots that have the capability to self-replicate?
There are two different opposing sides according to De Garis, head of Starlab Artificial Brain Project in Europe. The Cosmiscists say, ”Yes, nanorobots should have the capability to self-replicate. The Terrans say, “No, we do not want technology to destroy ourselves.” (Garis)

Why self replication?
To alleviate production cost, manufacturers of nanorobots try to construct a robot that will have the ability to create other nanorobots so we do not have to rely on human labor that is costly.
“Computer and constructor both shrink to molecular scale, while constructor takes on additional detail consistent with the desire to manipulate molecular structrures with atomic precision. The two major subsystem of constructor are positional capability and the tip chemistry.”(Merkle).

Risks?
Merkle believes that self-replicating nanorobots can annihilate the Earth if we do not check on them. Consequently, we must retain them carefully during transportation, handling, and programming. (Merkle)
