With dyslexia, it is hard to determine the causes. But over the years doctors, scientists, and psychologists have come up with certain possibilities. Remember, they are only possibilities, not the exact causes.

To begin, males are more at risk of being dyslexic because more males have reported facing reading difficulties and disabilities. It seems that males have greater amounts of testosterone hormones, which helps produces male physical characteristics at the developmental stage; but, at the same time the hormones may also aid the development of abnormalities in certain areas in the brain. Even though more males have dyslexia than females, females are also at risk.

Genetically, a person can inherit a lot of things from their parents, including dyslexia. If any one of a child's family members has dyslexia, then there is a highly likely chance for the child to have dyslexia. A change in one of the chromosomes may cause dyslexia, starting the lineage of dyslexia.
