Psychological: Page 2

Lesson Learned: After going through all of that on Angel Island, many wrote of appreciating what they once had. They now yearned for what little they had before. They almost always ended poems with hope of getting out of the horrid place soon, but by the last words of the poem hope faded.

Blame: Many blamed their country for being weak, forcing them to find other means of survival. When they tried to find other means of survival, they found out that they fell to imprisonment. They felt if only their country was stronger then they would be able to demand entrance to America.

Rejection: Many poems reflected how troubled they felt and how they did now know what to do. Manyh immigrants had used all their money for the trip to America. When the detainees were deported back to China they only drowned in poverty causing more grief for their families. They felt a great burden once they returned to their homeland and many decided to commit suicide from the grief and pain.
