Overcome Infection!

The immune system is responsible for keeping our bodies free and clear of potentially pathogenic objects and substances. Under ordinary circumstances, it does so well at its job that most pathogens never affect us or make us feel sick. However, sometimes an infection is overwhelming enough that disease results, sometimes leading to permanent damage or even death.

With the Overcome Infection simulation you become the "brains" of the immune system. You are in charge of manufacturing an antibody to an invading virus whose survival depends on circumventing all measures you take. Act quickly - don't let your body fall victim to disease!

Instructions

Click the button below to launch the simulation, which will open in a new window. When the simulation launches, click "Start" to begin. Multiple viruses will appear and begin to propagate. Click on a virus to select that type, and manufacture an antibody against it by moving the sliders to make the colors of the antibody match those of the virus. Click on different bands to alter the colors of different parts of the antibody. When the matching level exceeds 70, the antibody will be effective against the virus; release it into the bloodstream by clicking "OK". Click the button multiple times to release multiple antibodies. Be sure to manufacture antibodies against each type of virus you see, or the body could be overridden by infection! When 50 viruses appear on the screen, the viruses have defeated your efforts. If you kill all the viruses, you have defeated the infection! Submit your name to be placed on the high-score list.
