There are plenty of extra things for students to fill in their free time with. Join clubs and meet people in clubs such as Key Club, Pep Club, Conservation Club, etc.
At Newman High School, there is a broad variety of classes to take which are headed by separate departments and faculty members.
SCIENCE (3 Credits Required)
NOTE:
A total of three years of science is required at Newman.
Students are reminded that all state colleges and many private colleges
now require three years of science for admission.
Students who will be in math/science related fields in college are highly encouraged to take the honors version of the following courses. Those students who take honors courses will have an honors designation added to their transcript. To receive honors credit, the student will have to meet honors credit requirements for each semester as required by the instructor. Those students not meeting the honors criteria will not receive honors credit.
At Newman, it is
required that a student take an English class every year. There are
choices between regular English classes and advance classes as well as honor
classes. In honors courses students take on more challenging course work
and can earn credits for college.
SOCIAL STUDIES
Students are expected to take social studies classes their sophomore, junior,
and senior year. These classes consist of elective, honors, and regular
social studies classes. Similar to other honors classes, college credits
can also be earned.
MATHEMATICS
(3 Credits Required)
A
total of 3 years of math is required at Newman. Students are reminded that
all states and many private colleges now require 3 years of math, Algebra, and
above, for admission.
Religion classes
are some of the core requirements for students graduating from Newman High
School. Religion courses are a requirement for every year of each and
every students' classes. There are also elective courses for religion, but
cannot take the place of required religion classes.
All Foreign
Language courses must be taken in consecutive years. Not more than one
year of time-lapse between courses is allowed, but, if that should be the case,
the consent of the instructor is necessary to continue on to the next level.
Computers are
starting to revolutionize the world. To prepare students for the world,
Newman has a choice selection of computer courses for students to choose from
and learn about computer programs as well as application skills with the
computer that will aid them in the working world..
Business courses
are to help students familiarize themselves with the business world. There
are a variety of classes for students to choose from that will aid them if they are
majoring in a business career.
Consumer economic courses are electives and are optional for students to
take. These classes deal with house hold skills and adult management.
Students
at Newman are required to have at least one credit of fine arts to graduate from
Newman. That would be equivalent to two semesters of either an art or
music class.
MUSIC

Music
and art are both fine arts courses that students are required to take.
Music consists of vocalist and instrumentalists. For instruments, there
may a rental/cleaning fee that will be assessed when using Newman equipment.
For
Newman students, it is required that they take a gym course at least three
times in their high school career. It is a requirement that is meant to
promote health and fitness for students.
Senior
research project, although not a course, is a research project for all
graduating seniors. It is worth half a credit and is started the summer prior
to their senior year.
At Newman there are various electives for students to select from that are not under the other Newman departments.
