ACCOUNTING

E, Grades11, 12                                                                       1.0 Credit

Accounting acquaints the student with the use of business papers, forms and reports involved in keeping financial records and develops skills in analyzing and interpreting information.  Students are given working papers to accompany the text as well as a simulation of the accounting cycle.  The students will journalize transactions, posting to General and Subsidiary ledgers, completing a worksheet and doing the end of period financial statements for Sole Proprietorships, Partnerships and Corporations.  Students will do payroll, adjusting and closing entries, uncollectible accounts receivable, accounting for plant assets and depreciation, inventory and accrued revenue and expenses.

Students thinking of majoring in business in college should take this course.

 

APPLIED BUSINESS AND COMMUNICATION I

E, Grades 11, 12                                                                               1.0 Credit

Prerequisite: Consent of Instructor

This will be an interdisciplinary course taught by the Business and English departments.  Course focus will be on publication and marketing the yearbook, school newspaper and other projects.  Experience in writing, desktop publishing, computer graphics and photography will be included.

 

APPLIED BUSINESS & COMMUNICATIONS II

E, Grades 12                                                                    1.0 Credit

Prerequisite: Applied Business & Communication I & Consent of Instructor

Taught in conjunction with Applied Business & Communication I, students in Applied Business & Communication II will assume greater responsibility and leadership roles (i.e. Editorial position).

 

JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT ECONOMICS

E, Grades 11, 12                                                                      0.5 Credit

Semester I                                                                           

An introduction to economics.  This course, offered in cooperation with Junior Achievement, emphasizes a personal approach to economics.  Local business people are part of the program.  Students participate in the Stock market game and a computer simulation where they produce, market, and price a product competing with the other companies for market share.

 

BUSINESS  LAW

E, Grades 11, 12                                                                      0.5 Credit

Semester II                                                                          

Business Law is designed to acquaint the students with the basic legal principles relevant to each individual in his triple role as citizen, consumer, and employee.  Content includes the origin of law, the court systems, criminal and civil law, rights and duties, basic elements of contracts, consumer protection, employer-employee relations, and legal affairs affecting property such as ownership transfer, landlords and tenants, and community property. The law is interpreted through case studies.
