CONCERT BAND

E, Grades 9, 10, 11, 12                                                         1.0 Credit

Prerequisite:  Previous instrumental music experience and/or Consent of the Director

The purpose of Concert Band is to develop a student’s knowledge of the craft and the art of music through creative experiences in a performing ensemble.  Members of the Concert Band are required to attend concerts and large group festivals, marching/pep band events, and Solo & Ensemble Festival. 

 

JAZZ ENSEMBLE

E, Grades 9, 10, 11, 12                                                       0.75 Credit

Jazz Ensemble meets both semesters, from 7:00 – 7:40 a.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Prerequisite:  Audition and/or Consent of the Director

Jazz Ensemble is provided as an opportunity for students to learn about this American musical style.  The course includes learning to play in several different styles and includes an introduction to improvisation.  The director may limit enrollment based on instrumentation.  This is a year-long course.

 

VOCAL

CONCERT CHOIR

E, Grades 9, 10, 11, 12                                                         1.0 Credit

A class designed to develop good singing techniques and a basic knowledge of music fundamentals.  Exploration of various musical styles and periods is part of the course.  The concert organization performs many times during the school year.   Students are also required to participate in the Solo and Ensemble Festivals.  Individual and small group lessons are also a part of the choir program.  Choir will meet all five days of the week.

 

 

 

NEWMAN SINGERS

E, Grades 9, 10, 11, 12                                                         1.0 Credit

Prerequisite:  Auditions for this select group are required along with written approval from the director.   Newman Singers meet five days a week. This is a select group of singers and dancers who perform for school, civic, and church organizations.  The group entertains with music from Broadway, jazz and popular idioms.  This class is designed to develop good singing skills and to review music fundamentals.  Students are required to participate in Solo and Ensemble Festivals.  Individual and small group lessons are also a part of this program.
