CHILD DEVELOPMENT

E, Grades 9, 10, 11, 12                                                                    0.5 Credit

Semester I

This course is designed for the students to gain insight into the world of the young child.  The students will study prenatal care, and the emotional, social, physical and intellectual development of the child.  This course is recommended for students who are considering a career in education.

 

FOOD AND WELLNESS I

E, Grade 9, 10, 11, 12                                                         0.5 Credit

This course explores the relationship between our eating habits and our health.  Through knowledge of basic nutrition concepts, the student become more aware of how to make healthier dietary decisions that will be of value for a lifetime.  Apply your knowledge by experimenting and evaluating a variety of snacking and meal options.

 

FOOD AND WELLNESS II

E, Grades 10, 11, 12                                                                               0.5 Credit

Semester I                                                                                           

Prerequisite: Food and Wellness I or Consent of Instructor

This course further explores the area of foods by expanding the knowledge of nutrition.  It provides an opportunity to evaluate a variety of nutrition information resources and includes a study of world health problems by incorporating the study of cultural food habits.  Food preparation further reinforces healthier choices.

 

 

CREATIVE SEWING

E, Grades 9, 10, 11, 12                                                         0.5 Credit

Semester II

This course gives students an opportunity to construct simple garments and non-clothing projects.  Students learn the basics about the sewing machine, patterns, fabrics, stitching and pressing. Students must provide their own fabric, notions and sewing kit.

NOTE:  This course may be cancelled for 2003-2004.  Please be sure to list an alternative choice.

 

INDEPENDENT ADULT LIVING

E, Grades 9, 10, 11, 12                                                         0.5 Credit

Semester II

This course is organized around practical life skills that young adults can use to function competently, both now and in the future.  Through problem solving situations, students explore the areas of food and nutrition, housing and clothing, money management and the future of work.
