Lesson 1: BASIC SENTENCE STRUCTURE
Asking a Question
There are two general ways to ask questions.
The first method is having the main verb as the first element, followed
by the subject of the sentence, any remaining elements (DO, IO,
prepositional phrase, etc.), and a question mark.
|
Verb—subject ----------?
Example: Gehst du jetzt
nach Hause, Ulrike? (Are you going home now, Ulrike?)
|
The second method is having a question word, followed by the main verb,
the subject, any remaining elements, and a question mark.
The question words are wer (who), was (what), wann
(when), wo (where), warum (why), and wie (how).

Example: Warum

Note: Questions may also be made using a question
word along with a question mark.
Example: Wo? (Where?),
Was? (What?), etc.
