Lesson 1: ADJECTIVES

Adjectives are used in German in the same manner they are used in English.  There are two types of adjectives: predicate adjectives and descriptive adjectives.

Predicate adjectives

Predicate adjectives are descriptive words that follow an intransitive, or state-of-being, verb.

Example:  Der Film ist gut.  (The movie is good.)

Gut (good) is the predicate adjective of this sentence because it is describing der Film (the movie) and follows an intransitive verb, ist (is).

As seen in the example, predicate adjectives in German do not need any special endings!
