Lesson 2: NOUNS AND ARTICLES

Another fundamental part of sentences is the object, represented by a form of a noun.  All nouns in German are capitalized.

In German, nouns have genders- masculine, feminine and neuter.  They are defined by articles der (masculine), die (feminine) and das (neuter).  Here is a chart of articles in each case.

Definite Articles

  Masculine Feminine Neuter Plural
Nominative der die das die
Accusative den die das die
Dative dem der dem den
