The Firefly Squid

The firefly squid is the smallest of all squids.

When it is grown it is only about 3 inches long. It uses its light to distract the prey.

The tips of the tentacles are called photophores.

The firefly squid can give light, not just from its tentacles, but its entire body.

You can find this creature throughout the western Pacific Ocean.
