The Story
By: Nick
About ninety miles northeast of Little Rock, AR along highway 67 is the home of the White River Monster. Sighting of the monster began around 1915 and continued into the late 1970s.
Whitey, the monster, is described as sea-serpent-like and close to thirty feet long, although sometimes the size differs. The sound he makes is a loud bellowing noise. Many campers and fisherman have reported seeing him over the years.

Evidence For
Vegetation was crushed and tracks of a three-toed organism with toes fourteen inches in length were found in the mud along the river by two men in 1971. Also in that year a photograph was taken of Whitey by Cloyce Warren. A County Deputy stated seeing foam and bubbles in a circle about 30 feet in diameter and an animal for about two minutes.
The best evidence for the existence of Whitey is what the Arkansas State Legislature did. They passed a resolution in 1973 creating the White River Monster Refuge. This states that it is illegal to molest, kill, trample, or harm the White River Monster while he is in the retreat.

Evidence Against
Some biologists believe that Whitey is actually an elephant seal that got lost migrating. Others think nothing was ever there, it was just a plot to get tourists to come to the area. The river has become shallower which should make it easier to find him. Whitey has not been seen in the past few years and no remains have been found.
