Explanation
The objective of this website is
to inform people about past foreign relations. Recently there has been a lot of
controversy about war. Part of the ongoing disagreement is related to the fact
that most of us know little about past wars. So many things have happened that
it’s hard to keep track of who has done what to whom. For example, many people
know about the United States’ involvement in North Korea in the 1950s. However,
few know that there was also a short confrontation back in 1871 between these
two countries.
To meet this objective, the War Server maintains a collection of entries
about nations, confrontations, and events. Since collecting sufficient
information about all wars of the past could take a lifetime, we make it
possible for people all over the world to collaborate on such a collection.
After signing up, anyone can contribute as much information as they can find
in order to help this cause.
Before starting to contribute, it’s important to understand a few terms used
here:
- An "event" refers to any interaction among nations. Examples of events are
battles, treaties, and sieges.
- A "confrontation" refers to a string of events. Generally, these are wars.
However, confrontation is specifically vague, so that it doesn't stop someone
from entering something that is not a war.
Once a contributor logs in, he may enter information about any nations,
events, or confrontations. Users may also comment on these things in a small
forum attached to each subject. All users are allowed to enter information,
but only the user who entered a piece of information may change or remove it.
