The Technology

The new Ford Interceptor has
many new features which Ford designed specifically for this concept.
The first feature, also
probably the most obvious, is the new push bar. This push bar was
specially designed in order to protect the police interceptor as well as other
cars.
On the top of the interceptor,
the light bar has some new features. The light bar now features settings
for all types of weather including sunny, snow, and foggy conditions.
Also on the light bar is the
new Nighteye CCD cameras. These cameras are designed to work in low-light
conditions in order to improve visibility in the immediate vicinity of the
interceptor.
Probably the most significant
feature this concept has is the accident data recorder. This is similar to
the black box found on commercial airliners. This box will record data
from a crash in order to help with investigation.
There is also a better
communications system enabling officers to communicate between each other from
500 - 3000 meters away without going through dispatch.
The engine used in this concept
has been reworked now with an estimated 300 horsepower and 300 pound feet of
torque, a significant increase over the 235 horsepower engines most recently
used.
The final feature on this
concept are specially tailored seats designed specifically for a police
officer. These seats are more comfortable, providing they compensate for
the utility belts the officers wear, and also are more safe for the officer.
