2001

1/2 the prize for United Nations (U.N.) - (Founded in 1945) Created after World War II, the U.N. was created to, among other things, encourage economic growth and preserve world peace. Each nation that joins must follow the rules set up by the international organization and must pay a fee for their membership. For their work through out the 1990's, the organization received a portion of the Nobel Peace prize in 2001.

1/2 the prize for Kofi Annan - Born in Kumasi, Ghana, he earned his master’s degree in management at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. After thirty years of service with the U.N. he became secretary-general. His work included the reorganization the U.N. to be more efficient in solving international problems and strengthening international ties. For his work, he received a portion of the Nobel Peace prize in 2001.
