Kim Dae-jung - Born in the Cholla region of Korea, he earned his masters degree in economics from Kyunghee University in Seoul. Throughout his life he opposed the government of South Korea and became a pro-democracy activist. He ran for the South Korean Presidency throughout the 1990's and finally won in 1998. His greatest accomplishment during his presidency was in June 2000, when he met with the North Korean leader, Kim Jong II, in the North Korean capital. This was the first meeting between the two Korean leaders in fifty-five years and they agreed to encourage the strengthening of ties between their two countries. For his work he received the Nobel Peace Prize for 2000.
