Günter Blobel - Born in Waltersdorf, Germany, he earned his doctoral degree in oncology in 1967 from the University of Wisconsin at Madison. He researched how proteins are assigned to different jobs in a cell and how they move throughout the cell. His discoveries later lead to a better understanding of how cancer, AIDS, and Alzheimer’s work. For his work he received the Nobel Prize for Medicine in 1999.
