History of the Telescope

The optical telescope has a long history dating back to the Scientific Revolution. The telescope was one of the main instruments of the Scientific Revolution of the seventeenth century. It allowed scientists to see faraway objects. They used series of convex and concave lenses to magnify and diminish objects in the visual electromagnetic spectrum. The quality and power of these telescopes improved as the technology used to make glass lenses improved. They became larger, increasing magnifying power. Soon, however, improvements stopped, as they could not get any bigger. In 1730, however, the reflecting telescope was discovered, which used mirrors to reflect the image through additional lenses, increasing quality and power.
