In recent years, several technological advances have made music piracy easier, but at the same made it easier to track pirates and prevent piracy. The Internet has played a huge role in this, making music more readily available on such websites as Kazaa and Napster. Also, CD burners have increased the availability of pirated music.

A suggested solution to music piracy that would most likely slow the amount of pirated music is the possibility of selling music per track and then allowing in-store CD burning.
