Medieval Rulers
Women rulers:
Saint Adeline (931-999):
Was Rudolph II of
Burgundy's daughter. She was married to Lothiar King of Italy.
After Lothair died, (whom was said to be poisoned by Berengar II),
who took the throne. She was taken prisoner by Berengar II, because he
wanted her to marry his son.
Anna (963-1011): Is the daughter of
Theophano and the Byzantine Emperor Romanus II. Therefore sister
of the Theophano who married western Emperor Otto II. Anna was married
to Vladimir I of Kiev .
Edith of England (910-946): She is the daughter of king Edward the Elder of
England, she was married to the Emperor Otto I, his first wife.
Queen Izabella I of Spain (1451-1504):
She was the queen of Castile
and Aragon, she ruled equally with her husband, Ferdinand. She has
been known for supporting Christopher Columbus' expedition to discover
the new world.
Male Rulers:
King Henry II (1133-1189): Henry II , king of England (1154-89). Was the
first monarch of the house of Anjou, or Plantagenet. He was an important
administrative reformer, who was one of the most powerful European rulers
of his time.
King John (1167-1216):
He was forced to sign the Magna Carta. The Magna
Carta made him keep his promises. There was a council of barons that made
him. If he didn't sign it it would've caused war... There was war.
He was killed in 1216, and the Magna Carta was forgotten.
King Arthur:
King Arthur was a legendary king of Medieval times and
was renowned for his legendary knights of the round table. Until Arthur
was a teenager he had never known he was a king. He had a foster
parent and brother.
King Alfred:
Alfred ruled Wessex. He was born in Wantage in southern England.
He conquered England in 886 and was soon known as the king of all
England. He was the wisest king and started a court school and invited
foreign scholars.
