Interview with a Junior in High School
Who is an Ex-Drug User

Q: How old were you when you first took drugs?
A: When I first took drugs I was real young. I was 12. I first started heavily using drugs when I was 13 though.

Q: How do you feel after taking a drug?
A: Well, when you first start drugs, like cannabis, you feel happy, but it's a fake type of happy, cause really your brain is just so fried you don't know what else to feel but happy. Then after awhile when your tolerance goes up, you just start to feel depressed and paranoid.

With harder drugs like heroin you feel really good, in the beginning. It's like everything in your life is perfect. However, once you're using for a week or tow, you start to feel horrible without it. Physically you feel like you have a really bad case of the flu, and emotionally you feel like everything in your life is bad.

Q: What drugs have you tried?
A: Well, I used to use alcohol, pot, and heroin the most, but I've also tried ecstasy, acid, mushrooms, crack, cocaine, prescription drugs, opium, special K, and probably anything else you've ever heard of.

Q: How did you stop taking drugs?
A: I stopped taking drugs by going to rehab and AA (Alcoholics Anonymous) or NA (Narcotics Anonymous) meetings.

Q: What advice do would you give to children?
A: Don't get involved with drugs in the first place. Drugs are stupid. Be who you want to be.

Q: What is the strongest drug you have tried?
A: Heroin.

Q: Where did you first try drugs?
A: I first tried drugs outside in a park with some of my friends.

Q: Has someone ever offered you a drug?
A: Other than people I know that use drugs, and people that know I use drugs, no. No random person has just walked up to me and offered me drugs.

Q: Do any of your friends take drugs?
A: All of my old friends use drugs, but now that I'm sober, almost none of my friends use drugs.

Q: Why did you choose to stop taking drugs?
A: I stopped taking drugs because of one thing, plain and simple. I was sick and tired of being sick and tired.
